EXCESSIVE CAUTION is advised in these earliest lines [to three generations]  There appears to be no firm documentation, yet many sources yield this ascendancy in absence of primary sources. This must be considered oral tradition and of no firm geneological merit.

GilkristMcCURDY (MAKURERDY)  [Caution: No firm documentation of his progeny] [Frequently referred to as [Chief ] ]
 b. abt 1425, Isle Of Bute, Scotland

" As far as I am aware the only authentic data on Gilchrist is that he was granted half of the land of Bruchog on the Island of Bute by James IV(?) in c1489 which grant was eventually ratified by the Scottish Privy Council in a General Charter in 1506. Another Gilchrist (McCurdy) was granted land of Bransier at the same time as were several others of the same surname. Anything else about either Gilchrist is pure romance. I will be pleased to be contradicted by anyone who can produce ANY source material contributing any additional facts about either of the Gilchrists. John
