Residence : μ In 1778 he purchased of the other heirs of his father, Jonas, 192 acres of land in said township, (part of the tract patented to Jonas), which Henry's executors, April 8, 1791, sold to Michael Spangler, (son of Philip Caspar Spengler) and conveyed by Michael to two of his sons, Zachariah and Jesse Spangler. In 1789, Henry was assessed 2 horses and 2 cows.ξ6

This census clearly shows Henry Spangler and enumerates the members of his household.  He is in the second column, 3rd from bottom and 18 entries below his daughterνs future In-laws entry, the Conrad Swope family.

I am Unclear why Edward SPANGLER included this list with the 7th Batallion noted above, however it holds interest for the arms and accoutrements of the company, no doubt bearing similarity to all companies.

17. 1850 Census, Gettysburg Borough, Adams Co., Penna. Head of Household Adam SWOPE. Lydia was dead by this census, but her husband and children are evident within it.  Other members of household:  Clarissa his daughter 45 years old (name would be illegible minus prior knowledge), Spangler (apparantly how his son Conrad Spangler called himself) then 42 and a Cegar (or Segar?) Maker,  son George, 35 and a Cabinet maker, and son David, a 24 year old Student. The family group resided next to the Butcher Nicholas Kodori, and on the other side, the Coach Painter Eli Bentley. Lydia was dead by this census, but her husband and children are evident within it.
