1. William Creighton

Birth: 1710, ìapparently of Fermanah, Ulster, Ireland Ancestryî.3
Death: 1790, Leacock Twp, Lancaster Co, Penna [will was written 10 Nov 1790 and proven 13 Nov 1790]2 Some give date of death as 10 Nov 1790 -this has not been verified.
Alias: CRIGHTON. GRIGHTON in some will abstracts 4  found also under William CREIGHTON
Father: Unknown [See history of Family Creightona general commentary on the name- part of Volume II: Our Europeans  ]
European Origin:
Willliam Creighton was apparently of Fermanah, Ulster, Ireland Ancestry  [D M  Swope's Notes cite william Creighton , his wife Barbara, Anna Creighton their daughter and Robert McCurdy  her husband to  "the LARIMER, McMASTERS and Allied Fa milies" by Rachel H.L. Mellon Pub 1903 with comment on ancestry of William as above)].3
Religion: Unknown. He is found in Lancaster within the Scotch Irish community with its strong Presbyterian ties,  and his daughter's children were married in a Presbyterian Church. It is not unlikely he was Presbyterian, but it is not impossible that he is not.
Spouse: Barbara1died after Nov 1790 as she is mentioned in his will. Nothing further is known of her.
Marr: said to be 31 May 1761   Lancaster County, PA (unverified but  frequently repeated date and place)
Children : See Children of William and Barbara Creighton
Immigration: Unknown but before 1752 based on his loss of an indentured servant posted that year. No detail or verification of his purported place of birth has been encountered.
Resided: Apparantly Fermanah, Ulster, Ireland and definately Leacock Township, Lancaster County, Penna by 1752.
In Penna Gazette 1752, the following was posted: Maxwell MíCormick, Irish Servant, age c. 19, runaway from William Creighton, of Leacock twp, Lancaster Co.; He ran away some time ago and called himself Jonathan Hawthorn (16 July).5
He is noted in 1771 tax lists for Lancaster County, in Leacock where there is  another [unknown related Thomas Creighton]

Data Introduction reads: "The first column is the name of the tax payer/land owner. If the occupation of the person is listed in the original it will appear behind the name. The second column is the page number of the volume in the published Pennsylvania archives. The third column is the township where the person was  recorded. The remaining columns are (in order) A=Number of  acres; H=Number of horses; C=Head of cattle; SH=Number of sheep; S=Servants/Slaves, and T=Tax.later notation in middled of pages states this info is from the Penna Archives,  from the third series, Vol. 17.ì6

The historical Society at Gettysburg includes a fellow researcher's notations that Ann and Robert were  married by By Rector (Thomas Barton) . The date usually given for the marriage is Mar 30 1761. The following record appears to be a license to marry.

NOTES on Mary McCURDY and Robert Thompson
Note the Clingan, Thompson names among the following, names with which Mary's siblings intermarried.
In January of 1824 the members (partial list) of  Piney Creek Church show a Samuel Thompson as Elder of the church, members.....
...Robert Thompson, Mary Thompson, , Elizabeth Thompson,, AnnThompson, and Eleanor Thompson...Margaret Paxton, William Paxton...Elizabeth McCrea, Thompson McCrea, Samuel Thompson, Elder, Archibald Clingan, Elizabeth Clingan, William  Clingan...John Ferguson Sr, John Ferguson, Rebecca Ferguson....Sally Jamison, Miss Jamison, Kelly (colored), and Jack (Colored).

The Robert Thompson and Mary Thompson in the first entries, along with the three female Thompsons following MAY be Mary McCurdy and her husband Robert Thompson.....but I have yet to establish children for them, and ascendancy for Robert.

There are a Robert and Mary Thomson buried in the churchyard as per transciption of the Piney Creek Presbyterian Cemetery
