Our Involvement with The American Branch of the Lein Family involves two generations, that of John LINE, who was a founding member of Hellers Church and an early resident of Lancaster County, and his daughter, Dorothea, who married Johannes SWOPE.

1 John LINE [LEIHN, LEIN, LYNE] 1,2,3

Death: By 19 Aug 1746, [Will Entered on this date in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania] 1,3 Father: Unknown LEIN
Emmigration: From Germany, date unknown,  but by  1725 to Pennsylvania and possibly earlier. He is credited as a founding member of Heller's Church, the origins of which exist in 1725. His daughter married in  Lancaster County year 1725 to John Swope indicating the LEIN family had emmigrated at least by that year.  Another daughter is mentioned as "yet living in Germany" in John Line's  will 1746 clearly stating his homeland.    One unsourced family tree provides birth place for some of John Lein's chldren of Kirchardt, Germany5 but this has not been verified or pursued, although those notations are entered where they occur among John Lein's children. See Children of John LINE.
Naturalized:  1729, Pennsylvania. He was naturalized along with his son in law John Swope.   See   Naturalization Document relevant to them both. John Line was present America before his naturalization date as evidenced by the marriage of his daughter Anna Dorothea LINE to John SWOPE in 1725 in Lancaster County.
Resided: Leacock Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
Religion: Reformed. He was Elder of the earliest Reformed Church, which at first was called the Hill Church, later called Hellers, and now officially called Salem. See narrative on John Line, 2nd entry, directly below.
