Ben was born in Birmingham, but was living in Houston apparantly, when his mother died, and possibly Beaumont, Texas when his father died 9 months later. His father, an architect, moved frequently as a result of his work. Everything changed when Ben was 9, for his mother died of appendicitis when he was that age, and his father of pneumonia soon after. He would never again live with both his sisters, and resided with sister Mamie only one interval while in Texas. He moved to NYC when he came of age, and was a Telegraph Operator for Western Union, having learned that skill through his Aunt Ellie McGehee. He returned south only one time, in 1919, and apparantly never went south again.  His sister Beatrice joined him in New York sometime after he was married , arriving to the Apple in 1917. Sarah and he had  2 children, Beatrice [named for his mother] and Mary [named for his wifeνs mother] . He died from TB when his girls were young , a loss from which his wife never fully recovered, and is buried Silver Mount Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
